Vitamin D has been in the news a lot lately. We are told the best source for this vitamin is from the sun. However, with the scare of skin cancer we have all shied away from the sun as well as lathering on layers and layers of sunblock.

But why do we need this vitamin? D helps our bodies absorb calcium, thus promoting bone health as well as regulating the immune system. But most recently studies suggest it may protect us from cancer, autoimmune illnesses as well as depression among many other conditions.

We can obtain this vitamin from various food sources such as, orange juice, eggs, mushrooms, oily fish such as salmon and mackerel and milk.
